(Reno, NV) — Firefighters will know later today the extent of damage from a raging wildfire south of Reno. This morning, Reno Fire Battalion chief Tim Spencer says the fire is 50% contained. Winds of more than 80-miles-an-hour helped fuel the blaze that began yesterday afternoon. More than 3700 acres burned and at least 20 homes were destroyed. The winds died down overnight, allowing nearly 400 firefighters to stop the fire from advancing. Ten-thousand people had to be evacuated. Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez says one person died yesterday, but it’s unclear if it had anything to do with the fire. A cause is still unknown.
